Black Coyote Chateau Vineyard

 

1 "Black Coyote" is the name given to the union of Dr. Ernest A. Bates, Dr. Olin Robison, Jack Ruffle, and Stanley S. Trotman, Jr. They're strategically collaborating their time, energy, interest, and resources into the Napa Valley wine industry. Their name, "Black Coyote," represents the whimsical, yet clever, side of four very prominent gentlemen, who enjoy the occasional stress release that the name suggests. Collaboratively, they're ingeniously enjoying the quality of life that's synonymous with Napa Valley. The pursuit of fine wine is a passionate mission for each "Black Coyote."


Ernest A. Bates, M.D., founder of American Shared Hospital Services, has served in the positions of Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer since the incorporation of the Company in 1977. He is currently a member of the Board of Trustees for Johns Hopkins University and the University of Rochester, a member of the Board of Overseers - University of California at San Francisco School of Nursing, a member of the State of California High Speed Rail Authority, and a member of the Board of Directors of Salzburg Seminars. Dr. Bates is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University and the University of Rochester School of Medicine. Active in leading professional medical societies, Dr. Bates has also contributed chapters to the publication, Textbook on Brain Tumors and Black Related Diseases. He is a frequent guest speaker at medical organizations and business conferences. Brown Estate Vineyard 


Brown Estate is a family owned and operated private estate winery tucked into the eastern hills of the Napa Valley. In 2005 we celebrated our 25th year in the Valley and our tenth crush.

The seeds for this labor of love were planted in 1981 when our parents fell in love with the rolling hills, rambling walnut groves, and majestic oak trees that populated what we now affectionately refer to as "The Ranch." The property had been abandoned for ten years prior to coming into our family. We subsequently built access roads and reservoirs, brought in residential and agricultural electrical power, refurbished the hundred-year old Victorian home that barely stood on the property when we acquired it, and between 1985 and 1990 we planted a total of fifty acres of vineyards that include Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay. ...Read More

Sharp Cellars Vineyard

 

High atop a mountain above the historic Sonoma Plaza, Sharp Cellars overlooks Hailey's Creek Vineyard, an organically farmed Zinfandel vineyard named after his oldest granddaughter. On a clear day from the terrace at Sharp Cellars, one has views from Sonoma Valley to the skyline of San Francisco.

Sugarleaf Vineyards

In the fall of 2004 we began to construct the winery from the ground up, and gathered ideas from magazines and other wineries that we had visited around the world. It was very important to us that we incorporate the minimalist gravitational pull method of production into the winery's architectural plan so that we could preserve the natural qualities of the fruit during processing, but we also wanted the winery to remain a quaint and inviting space that overlooked the vineyard. The winery was completed in the beginning of 2006 and we seamlessly produced our first Sugarleaf vintage in our new custom state-of-the art facility. Today, Sugarleaf Vineyards is an award-winning boutique vineyard in the heart of the Monticello region, producing limited quantities of each varietal so that we can remain committed to our vision of producing fine wine. Vision Cellars Vineyard

 

1 I was born the son of a Texas Moonshine maker. My Father, Sue, was considered by many to be the finest Moonshine maker in all of Texas, because of the fine grains he used to make his corn whiskey. My Mother Elbessie, along with her brothers and sister, made wine from the various fruit we grew.

Even though I grew up around distilled spirits and fruit wines, I did not develop a taste for either. It was not until I tasted my first Burgundy, long about 1955, that I fell in love with fine wine. In that year, I happened upon a taste of 1952 Burgundy, and vowed to myself then and there that I would someday aspire to make a wine as fine as that.

Years later, after tasting Pinot Noir from the world over and following several trips to Burgundy France, my wife Lil and I purchased the best fruit available to us and my personal vision to become a winemaker was realized, with our first bottling of our 1997 Pinot Noir…so named "Vision Cellars".
