The NeoSemantic Tasting Society WINE---FOOD---COGNAC "educating your palate...giving you the sophistication of TASTE w/o the snobbishness" The NeoSemantic Tasting Society is made up of a group of highly driven individuals committed to bringing people together from various event atmospheres. The society started with the simple idea of creating an atmosphere that would attract a variety of people to one venue and what better way to foster these new interactions, than to bring people together with wine, food, and cognac. The result is a place that allows individuals to meet others that they would not have encountered, on any other day or at any other event. The NeoSemantic Tasting Society will hold its debut affair, a wine tasting, this Saturday, September 8, 2007 sponsored by Tastevine.com, a new wine tasting social networking utility, and Skin Oasis Holistic Day Spa , a resident spa with two convenient locations in Durham, NC. The event is planned by NeoSemantic Tasting Society's very own, Wil and Crystal. Held at Station 9's Resident Lounge in Durham, North Carolina from 6pm – 9pm, it is truly an affair that you do not want to miss. If you have not yet sent your RSVP, you may do so at NeoWineSociety.com. So what are you waiting for? Come on out and uncover new food, new wine and new people. Featured Wines Yellowtail Shiraz, Nobilo Sauvignon Blanc, Schmitt and Sohne Riesling, Ravenswood Zinfandel, Leonardo Da Vinci Chianti, Kendall Jackson Chardonnay, Cavit Pinot Grigio, Blackstone Merlot, Woodbridge Cabernet, Mirassou Pinot Noir, Beringer White Zinfandel, Dry Creek Chenin Blanc |
The NeoSemantic Tasting Society WINE---FOOD---COGNAC recommend YOU DO THIS bitter| sweet| sour| deep| wild| tangy . . !!NOT THIS!! Traditional | Modern Remix | Buttery, round, ripe apple | Utterly, butterly in a beautiful way | Floral, mineral, tree fruit | Anne Murray in the early years - refreshing, happy and full of promise | Herbal, gooseberry, good acidity | The Toronto Argonauts football field after a fresh mow on a crisp October morning. | Blackberries, chocolate, leather | The John Turturro of Cabernets - full of character but underrated | Black plum, balanced oak, peppery | Crocodile Dundee after wrestling two 'gators - cocky but charming | Dark cherries, charred wood, full-bodied | Explosive fruit with a tannic structure to straighten the Tower of Piza | Wine Review by Ruarri Rogan Blackstone Merlot Although a Merlot, this wine portrays immense depth for the price-point it represents - and Pinot Noir exempt, it is a medley of the predominant California red vines. If new world red wines were a boy-band, Blackstone would at least be a dancer in the music video - because it has all the poster-vine characteristics of a merlot: medium bodied and seamless, coupled with the full-fledged berry bursting fruit forward sunshine-in-a-glass components that are very difficult not to like. This is a great wine for Chinese takeout, and would go really well with Sweet and Sour pork and egg rice. Cavit Pinot Grigio Growers and producers of Pinot Grigio have a lot to thank producers of bad chardonnay for, purely because the wine drinking crowd are still in the throws of an ABC stage (anything but chardonnay), where people made an about turn from full-bodied buttery whites and turned to the petit and elegant profile of honey-suckled Pinot Grigio. Pinot Grigio conjures thoughts of Miami beach or street-cafe's in San Francisco, as it's a varietal that is approachable and likeable from every perspective. At $6.99 you can't really afford not to drink Cavit from time to time, it's light, clean and seamless on the finish which makes it an excellent companion for leafy green salads or light pasta dishes at Sidewalk cafes. Schmitt and Sohne Riesling Riesling is another white wine more agreeable to the male palate (and that's not because it can sometimes be described to smell of kerosene or petroleum.) Schmitt and Sohne is consistent from year to year, and on a superficial note, the packaging's pretty good too. The aroma on Riesling can be anywhere from floral to chemical - but in this case its quite tropical, and is fresh with a bouquet of tinned peaches combined with fragrant over ripe apples. Riesling's are usually medium-bodied, and quite dry on the finish - which makes them great as a cocktail beverage and an excellent start to an evening. |
